Short Synopsis

Betty goes out and leaves Pudgy at home with the kitten Myron, warning them to behave. The two set about the apartment: a chase through the kitchen brings down the crockery, a game in the living room topples the lamp and shreds the cushions, the bedroom is turned over, and by the time Betty's key is heard in the door the place is wrecked. Both animals try to look innocent and each tries to make the other take the blame, until, confronted, they confess together, and the title is their joint admission. Betty spanks Pudgy, one of only four times in the series she does so, and the two culprits are left to clean up. Documentation of the film is thin, its Wikipedia entry being a stub, and the synopsis above is drawn from the cartoon itself.

Why It Matters

  • The film is a straightforward pets-wreck-the-house comedy, but it pairs Pudgy with the kitten Myron, who had been introduced as a stray in Happy You and Merry Me and became the series' second animal regular; the two together carried several of the late Betty Boops.
  • It is in the public domain in the United States, which keeps it in circulation; as a sample of the 1936 series it shows how completely the cartoons had become about the animals, with Betty appearing only to leave and return.

Notes and Trivia

  • Fleischer historians have counted Pudgy's spankings: Betty Boop's Little Pal, Taking the Blame, We Did It and Ding Dong Doggie.
  • Myron the kitten was named, like Pudgy's animator, after Myron Waldman.
