Short Synopsis

Pebbles Flintstone, now working at an advertising agency, and Bamm-Bamm Rubble, a car mechanic, decide to marry, after Bamm-Bamm proposes with a poem in the middle of the street; Pebbles at first thinks his letter beginning "Dear Pebbles" is meant to dump her. But Fred has lost the family savings betting on his team, the Bedrock Brontos, and he tries to raise money for the wedding before Wilma finds out. The bank turns down his loan, his request for a raise gets him fired from the quarry after his temper injures Mr. Slate, and his scheme with Barney loses the Rubbles' savings too, to a real-estate con man. Wilma's mother arrives to help, Fred humiliates Barney at Bamm-Bamm's bachelor party, and the families fall out so badly that Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm run off to elope in Rock Vegas. Barney ends his friendship with Fred and tells Wilma about the money. The families chase the couple to Rock Vegas, reconcile, and the wedding takes place after all, with Fred and Barney friends again.

Why It Matters

  • The film brings the Flintstones' family comedy up to date: the children are grown, the parents are getting older, and the story is a familiar wedding farce of money troubles and feuding in-laws, told with the Stone Age puns and gadgets that made the original series popular.
  • It was a made-for-television film that continued the 1970s spin-off The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show, part of Hanna-Barbera's effort to keep its most valuable characters alive into the 1990s. Its success led to a sequel, Hollyrock-a-Bye Baby, later the same year.

Notes and Trivia

  • Henry Corden voices Fred, a role he took over after Alan Reed's death in 1977.
  • Megan Mullally, later of Will & Grace, voices the adult Pebbles.
