Short Synopsis

Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm, now married, have moved to Hollyrock, where Pebbles works at an advertising agency and Bamm-Bamm is trying to make it as a screenwriter. In Bedrock, Fred and Barney are working overtime, and Wilma and Betty have started a food delivery business, "Bone Appetite", leaving Fred to cook his own TV dinners. Then Pebbles announces she is pregnant, and both families descend on Hollyrock, driving the young couple mad with advice. Fred and Barney decide to help Bamm-Bamm sell his script, and stumble into a jewel robbery: a giant pearl mistaken for a bowling ball. The gangster Big Rock sends his henchmen, Rocky and Slick, to get it back. Fred and Barney blunder through a television studio, chasing the producer Shelley Millstone, are thrown out, and gatecrash a film premiere, injuring the star Craig Craigmore. Fred attends a baby-care class, which the henchmen infiltrate. The chase, the pearl and the script all come together just as Pebbles goes into labour, and the crooks are caught. Pebbles gives birth to twins, Roxy and Chip, and Bamm-Bamm's script finally finds a buyer.

Why It Matters

  • The film turns the Flintstones' ageing into its comedy: Fred and Barney as fussy, interfering grandfathers-to-be, a wacky gangster subplot, and a gallery of Hollywood parodies, from a "Hollyrock" film premiere to a studio called ABC, the network on which the film itself aired.
  • It was the sequel to I Yabba-Dabba Do! and part of Hanna-Barbera's early-1990s revival of the Flintstones for network television, which included a Christmas special broadcast less than two weeks later. It introduced the next generation of the families, the twins Roxy and Chip.

Notes and Trivia

  • Its working title was Hollyrock or Bust!
  • Mark Hamill, already the voice of the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series, is in the voice cast.
  • Kath Soucie took over the voice of the grown-up Pebbles from Megan Mullally.
